Hamersley Carine v Trinity Aquinas

The Women’s League side heads into their first home match of 2026 buoyed with confidence after they recorded the club’s first win in an A Grade competition since 2016. The Hawks held off a fast-finishing Melville to get home by 14 points, propelling them into the top five after the first fortnight of the season.

Hamersley Carine has risen to every challenge presented to them so far this season, and a familiar one emerges in Round 3.

This week, a grudge match against Trinity Aquinas beckons in a Grand Final replay from last season. The two sides were the dominant forces in B Grade last season, with the Hawks’ only losses coming against their opponents this week, falling in last year’s decider by 24 points in slippery conditions.

Undefeated in 2025, TA’s have continued their winning ways into their new grade, sitting top of A Grade with an eye-watering percentage of 1200 after two games.

The Hawks will be looking to end this remarkable unbeaten streak, which has extended unbroken from August 2024, an astonishing 21 games.

Forward trio of Tabitha Rewell, Lauren Bulbeck and Yazmin Arias combined for seven of Hamersley Carine’s nine goals last week, and will be hoping to break a miserly Trinity Aquinas defence that has only conceded three goals in their past three matches.

The last time the two sides met at Beach Oval was under lights, where the Hawks got within 14 points of the eventual premiers.

Quinns District v Hamersley Carine

Ridgewood Oval

Saturday, April 25 3:05 PM

It was a game of momentum swings for Christian Martin’s side last week.

The C1 Men’s League team let a 26-point third-quarter lead slip, conceding eight consecutive goals to fall by 17 points to Kwinana in a willing encounter.

The sharp-shooting Knights kicked nine goals straight in the second half to win 11.4 (70) to 7.11 (53) in crisp conditions at Beach Oval.

The Hawks started strongly, kicking the opening four goals of the game, but couldn’t hold off a slick Kwinana side that swiftly spread them apart on transition from their defensive 50.

Jacques Fabre was named Hamersley Carine’s best, the on-baller kicking a handy goal in the second quarter and relentlessly attacking the football throughout. Defenders Evan Hewett and Jed Hamburg were also solid contributors in the Hawks’ home opener.

This week, the Hawks' attention turns to the far northern suburbs as they face the currently winless Quinns District in a twilight ANZAC Day encounter.

The Bulls will be smarting following their loss last week in the C2 Grand Final rematch against Forrestdale, as they look to open their season at home the right way.

Surprisingly, apart from pre-season clashes, this will be the first time the men’s league sides of Hamersley Carine and Quinns face off in a match for premiership points.

Both clubs have come close to facing each other in recent years, but have been victims of snakes and ladders, moving up and down the grades in opposite directions.

In 2018, Hamersley Carine were relegated from B Grade to C1, replacing Quinns, who had been relegated down to C1. Hamersley Carine again dropped the next season from C1, to be supplanted by the C2 Premiers, who were… Quinns.

The Bulls were then relegated from C1 in 2021, the same season that the Hawks were promoted back up from C2, finally culminating in season 2026, where both sit in the same league.

Dominated aerially last week against Kwinana, the league side will need to own the skies if they are to clinch their second win of the season, in what promises to be an intriguing encounter under lights.

Selection:

IN: Ranson, B.Jones, Foster, Beazley, Iredell

OUT: Catterall, B.Taylor, Cunningham, Baldwinson, Zappelli

The Hawks will run out on ANZAC Day with a new look midfield, as they are forced to deal with a host of changes. Liam Cunningham will miss several weeks with a broken finger, while rover Brodie Taylor is unavailable, paving the way for the return of Jack Beazley and the League debut of Jack Foster, formerly of the Joondalup Jets.

Christian Martin has added height to his side as Ned Iredell returns in the ruck alongside Justin Ranson at full back. Fan favourite Brayden Jones also makes his first senior appearance for 2026.

Last week:

Hamersley Carine 4.2 5.6 6.8 7.11 (53)

Kwinana 2.1 2.4 7.4 11.4 (70)

Best: Fabre, Hamburg, Hewett, Neale

Goals: Martin 2, Neale 2, Naylor, Vawser, Fabre
